I'm American and I want to live in russia, or be able to easily visit there. I was wondering if I purchased land in Russia if I could legally live and stay in Russia? I'm marrying a russian, but I would like to also possibly live in Russia for a couple of years or visit there because she would be happy seeing her family. Is there anything that I could do?

See an immigration lawyer. The kind that specializes in Americans moving abroad. I have relatives in Russia, and am Russian myself, but I don't know anything about foreigners owning land or what the immigration proceedings are.

Ask your girlfriend. Or you'll be able to consult with a lawyer.

I suggest a one year student visa. It allows you to stay long term, while you could enrol in an inexpensive university program for learning Russian. It does not matter how old you are. You could get a student visa for as long as you are accepted at the university. Better consult a Russian Lawyer who speaks English, and not your future wife. In any circumstance it's best to be cautious. Being a student by the way gets you a lot of benefits, for instance discounts in Museums, etc.
