I am russian, but i go to american school in Moscow. There are about 1700 kids there 30% of which are american and like 78% are from other countries like UK Denmark, Kenya South Korea, Brazil, Australia, and alot more, overall we have kids from like 60 different countries. All of them seem fine. MOst of them only know basic russian phrases that they learned while living here, some dont know a word on russian and are still fine. Most of the kids use metro some time or the other. As much as i know (for sure) no one got killed by skinheads (even though thats wwat u hear)

As is usually the case when an American asks a question here, the correct answer is "It depends". Your question - and every single answer I've read in response - shows a shocking inability to see that the vagueness of the question - and the assumptions made by the answerers - combine to form a dangerous level of ignorance that could well be lethal for (1) the asker and (2) anyone else who reads this page. Not one of you said if it depended at all on (1) her age (2) if she is traveling alone (3) where in a country that is over 5000 miles long is she going to travel (4) if she was going to have any type of support network such as a school or family or other dependable group. You barely addressed the language issue, which - combined with my above issues - would combine to form a genuinely dangerous situation. "Girl" strongly implies a minor - a female below the age of 18. Almost all Americans that age have zero experience traveling internationally - most never left their home state. No mention is made of school or family, tour group or class trip. Moscow or Severomorsk; St. Petersburg or Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky; Novosibirsk or Novaya Zemlya: to even imagine that life would be similar in any of these places is ludicrous. Language skills are highly questionable, as is knowledge of culture. Bottom line: without about 4 orders of magnitude more information than was provided by the asker, the answer is: "Not only No, but HELL NO!!!" In fact, I would advise against travel to the girl's own state capital without supervision. The answers to date show a level of naivete that could easily be described as "criminal negligence" in the United States.
