I am an American high-schooler and I might want to do some school abroad in Moscow. Is it decently safe there? Specially towards Americans? I have been hearing good and bad stories about it, but It seems very modern, I have seen Russian Game Shows, and things like that. My mom wants to go to Moscow someday, and she said President Dmitry and Prime Minister Putin, are trying to make Russia a better country. I understand about all the corruption because they WERE communist not so long ago.

I think it's safe, but you have to be street savvy. You can't just walk around expecting to be safe - you have to watch your surroundings and keep an eye on others around you. It will depend on your neighborhoods. I went there for only a day this spring (we were on our way to a smaller town in Russia and laid over over night). We spent the night and went for a walk/out for breakfast in the morning. I didn't feel unsafe, I saw people out with kids, teens by themselves, and young women walking to work or to the bus. It wasn't the best neighborhood, either, but it was perfectly safe during the day.

Im russian and lived there for a while but moscow and st pet is sorta safe cuz its busy but during the night, i dont suggest u wonder the streets alone. Lots of kids like to get drunk and start troulble, especially if its a person who isnt the colour white of race. Pick up the language there or ul be clueless.

Is it safe? - Depends where you go. St.Petersburg is safer than Moscow, I'd say. And it's more beautiful and romantic :) Perhaps you should go there instead of Moscow? I know a girl here on YA , I think she's from the US, she studies in St.Petersburg :) I am glad your mom says Medvedev and Putin are making Russia better. You are a minority among most Americans who think Putin is a communist dictator and that Russia is evil. Good Luck :-)
