Is it because I am Russian, and I was born there? I lived in the United States since I was 1, and I visit Russia (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekatrinburg) every one to two years. For some reason I always feel like I want to live in a cold, snowy, and rural and empty part of somewhere in Siberia. I picture it as a similar place to where the band, t.a.t.u.'s, "Not Gonna Get Us", video was shot. None of my family in Russia even live in that kind of area! Why do I feel this way?

Did any of your ancestors live there? We can get genetic memory. My grandfather was Indian. I look nothing Indian but LOVE Bollywood etc. My grandmother on the other side was a Romany gypsy. It is in my heart to travel. I am also descended from Scandinavia. There is nowhere I'd rather live than a cold place with tall trees and mountains and lakes and a clear blue sky.

The sort of life you are describing is a complete break from busy Western life. I've lived in that sort of region for a while and it's highly addictive. There is no pressure to earn more and more money, everyone is pretty content with what they have. Instead of concentrating on consuming more and more, or being the 'coolest', you can focus on deeper aspects of life. There is a sense of peace that's hard to find in a big city. I miss those days. But that's just me, your reasons might be entirely different. Jonathon. http://listen2russian.com/
