There's no such thing as "US Friendly" place to live in Russia. Only certain women are "American Friendly". Very few people like Americans there, no need to expalin further why. You might try Moscow which is more international than other cities.

St. Petersburg is similar to Anchorage in climate. Mostly friendly to Americans there (thousands live there already).

Moscow is definitely the most US friendly place because of its cosmopolitan nature. This doesn't mean that Russians in Moscow love Americans, but rather, are not openly hostile. So, I'm really defining 'US friendly' as 'indifferent'. St. Petersburg is cosmopolitan as well and my experiences there have been very similar to those in Moscow, but there are slightly more brazen nationalistic and xenophobic movements in SPb than in Moscow (this would be of particular concern for Americans with darker skin). Outside of the larger cities there is noticably more suspicion of Americans due to less exposure to Americans. This again, usually isn't manifest in hostility, but maybe sometimes in snide comments or condescending attitudes. Regarding the climate; SPb and Moscow are generally similar to Anchorage, with seasonal temperature ranges within a few degrees of each other. Both SPb and Moscow, however, do receive more precipitation. The city of Sochi is one of the warmest in Russia, with a subtropical climate.
