I would love to live in RUssia for 3 years. They are amazing people and good friends if you make friends with them. And they get impressed if you can learn to speak with proficiency.

It can be exciting, it can be depressing, depending on the American and the place where he/she wants to live for 3 years. Most of the expats find living in Moscow or St.Pete exciting but expensive.

No, but how enjoyable an experience, would depend on how much money you have and which part of Russia.

Having lived there as an ex-pat, it is different. It can be brutal unless you are residing in one of the major cities. Even living in a major hub, you will have to readjust your thinking on what you are doing there. The summers are fun, the spring, fall and winter leave a lot to desire in the way of activity. For the typical Westerner, yes it would be depressing.

If the person that is going to visit has even a slight doubt that they may not like it, they probably will not have a good time. Especially if they go alone.

Depends the origin of residence. Closer to center or far. In any event, if an American knows the language and some cultural basics, there wil be some challenge facing them. So depression is probably out of picture, maybe some desperation. When he or she would have to go through red tape. And there will be a home sick situation that would happen to any one from any country.

My childhood and teenage years in Russia were great. Although I don't think adult life is as good.
