Moscow is a very expensive city. If you want to have the same lifestyle as in Paris or London, it will cost you more money. But, unlike these cities, you can live for cheap. I spent 6 months in Moscow. Average rent in the center, for a small flat, is more than $1,000/month. The further from downtown, the cheapest. For example, you can pay $500 for a small flat if you live 45 min away from the center. You can eat for as much money as in Europe or North America, there are many supermarkets. There are also cheap and expensive restaurants, like in every capital. Metro is very cheap, such as gas for your car. About nightlife, same as restaurants: some places are very cheap, some are far from beeing cheap... Mac Donald's is less expensive ;-) It's expensive to be a foreign tourist, you'll pay higher prices to visit touristic spots. But if you speak Russian, it's gonna be easier. I don't think moving to Moscow is that expensive, it depends on how much luggage do you have! When I was there, I was a student with a limited budget, and I spent about $800 a month, rent excluded (I paid $100 rent with the university...) Don't hesitate if you have other questions! And believe me, Moscow is such a great place...I'm going back there to work in a few months!
