I am an American girl, born and raised, but lately I have been feeling this urge to live in Russia.(when I turn 18) I don't want to be someone who spends there whole life in one place. I want to see the world, and experience different cultures. I feel as though Russia has an amazing culture and histroy that I want to be a part of. Plus I love the language. Am I crazy for this? How do I achieve my goal? ANyone else done this?

Since you have no experience of life in Russia I would say you are definitely weird. That doesn't mean you shouldn't try it. Any experience is positive - but don't just head off expecting to live there forever. It's not all that nice; it's just different. Go! Visit for a few weeks. Make some friends. Have fun. And have an experience. Good luck if you do.

Not weird at all :] Many of us are interested in what other places have to offer. Theres alot of diversity in other countries. You are not crazy at all! I have a store desire to move to Paris. (Mmm..shopping) Talk to your parents about your future, and see what they say. After you're an adult, you can do whatever. Just make sure you have ways in supporting yourself!

its not wierd to want to get out and experience the world. hopefully you will go to russia and live for a while. after that i bet you'll feel the urge to see and experience another of the great places that the world has to offer. not wierd at all. not crazy. If your going to college, you could get a visa and go study in russia. alot of people have done that. good luck, but i think after you achieve your dream, you'll dicover that "home is where the heart is"

I would live there if I could, its the coolest place in the world in my opinion. But nobody there will pay me nearly as much as I make in the USA... so I'll settle for visiting every year.

Yes I have done it, not just once but almost 4 times. The first was in Paris, second was in Florence, and third was in Duesseldorf. I was 20 the first time I did it. My parents were against it, but I followed my heart and I do not regret anything. I did encounter many difficulties but I certainly learned a lot. I was in these places mainly for immersing myself in the culture and language. I stayed the longest in Paris, for 6 years. Germany and Italy were only for 6-12 months. I enrolled in the conservatory (Musikhochschuele) for Piano. I'm about to do the 4th one in Russia towards the end of this year. But Russia is very different from the US, so don't expect things to work like they do in the US. You're right about the history, culture and language. I agree with you. Just do it but it would be advisable to have a good knowledge of the language before going there. Save enough money for your expenses. There are plenty of possibilities in staying there, one of them is teaching English if you have a TEFL certification, or one can even consider working as an aupair, at least you have a place to stay and meals are provided. But if you can afford it, you may share a flat with other students in the city you wish to go. It's best to stay with Russians and not with other foreigners because you will likely end up speaking English with foreign students. People do call me weird, but I take that as a compliment. A lot of people have this desire to live in other countries but very few really have the courage to take the first step and make it happen. I don't think you are weird. You simply are too smart for the average human being.
