What is it like to live in russia

What is it like to live in russia?
i was just wondering. ive been into the russian pop duo t.a.t.u. lately so i was wondering... for example: 1. what type of gov't do they have? 2. is the economy stable? 3.what types of genres of music do the youth like (artists?) 4. what are the big cities? 5. what is the culture like? is it like one culture or a "melting pot" like the U.S.A? any info would be beneficial.

The economy is a little less stable then it's in the US considering the worldwide recession. They are not as dumb as Americans when it comes to giving out mortgages to any bum from the street and then having a nationwide foreclosure crisis and collapse of banking system. People mostly save and they buy what they can actually afford. Music is very different. Just like in the US. It's the biggest country in the world, so there are many big cities like Moscow and St. Petersburg. Culture is very high: they have the best classical drama and ballet theaters in the world. It's not really a melting pot in smaller cities, but you can find many foreigners in Moscow and other big cities. Most ethnic minorities are the ones who hail from Russia itself. The government is a democracy although they move closer to a one party system. BUT, it's really not what Sarah Palin type of people may tell you about lack of democracy. People really DO like Putin. I mean I'm sure many Americans now wouldn't mind having Obama clones sitting in the Senate. So Putin for Russians is somewhat like Obama for Americans. . .Putin brought good changes after the mess that was there in the early 90s.

1. Medvedev/ Putin . The West was saying that Medvedev was pre-elected, but even if he was, the Russians don't mind, because we really do like Putin and Medvedev. We like how they deal with things. 2. Quite. Thankfully, it hasn't been touched by the financial crisis as much as the US and some European countries have. 3. Different teens listen to different music, just like everywhere else. People listen to both Russian and Western artists. Some like rock, some like pop, etc. 4. Moscow, St.Petersburg, Yekaterinburg... 5. The culture is very rich. Ballet, opera, poets ,writers, cinema. It's not so much of a melting pot as the US, but there are many ethnic minorities and sub-cultures, often coming from countries like Georgia (and despite last August's war with Georgia, the Russians do NOT hate the Georgian people, only their government).

A highly focused federal government, the rights of the individual are not very strong. The economy is teetering and this year there is a federal deficit as Russia, like everyone else, has been impacted by the global financial crisis. Music search YouTube for Russian Popular music. Three largest cities are Moscow (8-10 million), St Petersburg (3-4 million) and Novosibirsk (2 million). The culture is not a melting pot as you know it. However Russia is a the largest country on earth, spans 11 time zones, covers 60% of the Asian continent and there are over 100 languages spoken. Its a beautiful country but the culture and ways of thinking are very different from the USA.
